Giving JavaScript another chance

JavaScript has been the subject of much public ridicule, and not just for its name. People have even written alternatives to JavaScript that translate into JavaScript so they can run in existing browsers. Personally, I think JavaScript has some obvious shortcomings but for the most part is a pretty usable language.
